Papercraft Protoype
This is my little statuette of a character from a series named Gravity Falls. I found this character interesting personality-wise, as well as in their character design and I thought that it would be fun to make a little tribute to him.
First of all, I created the 3D model in Rhino and quickly unfolded it. Then I used make2D to create an outline of the unfolded 3d model. I prepped it for printing by creating tabs on the make2D model and making sure that there aren't any double lines or curves. I made a 8.5" x 11" rectangle to mimic a piece of paper and scaled all the make2D models to that so once I print the blueprints, all the piece are up to size with each other and with the paper.
I didn't struggle all too badly with cutting the shapes out, but when it came to sticking the tabs together it was quite difficult considering how small they turned out to be when printed. Using rubber cement made the process easier though, since it's almost always an instant stick!
For feedback on the prototype, I just need to add more detail and plan the colors out carefully. I plan on expanding the two bottom polygons so that I could add a little environment on there. I also want to add detail by subtractive detail or something like that. I'm definitely going to scale it up more as well, just to make it easier for myself and I think it'll look cooler if it was bigger.
